Chicago Safe Start has a committed public awareness committee which includes some of our organizational partners including a local social marketing firm (PS&A). PS&A developed many of our core public awareness materials listed below. Over the years, CSS has produced a range of products that are shared with participants across our training programs, direct consumers of CSS services, and the general public.
“Bring the Kids Back into Focus”, one of our primary captions, emerged from a series of informative meetings with community leaders.
For the past five years, Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley has proclaimed the third week of April to be Childhood Exposure to Violence (CEV) Prevention Week. The Chicago Safe Start collaborative sponsors this observance in Chicago as an important time to bring families, providers, and communities together a unified message about the need to prevent young children from suffering from CEV. While we support a series of activities across CEV Prevention Week, we remain faithful to this work across the year.
The theme for CEV Prevention Week 2011 is Every Person, Every Day! The promotional materials for 2011 are listed below. Chicagoans are encouraged to display the poster, make the 12 promises listed on the poster, and reach out for training and support to become the safe adults that children need so much. Stories For Children That Grown-Ups Can Watch - A unique series of animated videos and coloring-activity books has been created for service providers on the subject of children exposed to violence and trauma. They are currently being distributed through Illinois Safe From The Start sites, Chicago Safe Start sites, and other programs throughout Illiniois.
This series is being produced collaboratively with the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and other organizations.
